Zhang Linghe and Zhao Jinmai are confirmed to reunite in the upcoming Youku’s modern drama, “Our Generation aka Cherry Amber (樱桃琥珀).”
The duo previously collaborated on the 2024 costume fantasy drama, “The Princess Royal,” where their on- and off-screen chemistry captivated countless fans. Shortly after “The Princess Royal” wrap up its run in July, rumors of a second collaboration began circulating online. On August 8, the official confirmation of their reunion in “Our Generation” was finally announced.
Based on the web novel “Ying Tao Hu Po” (樱桃琥珀) by Yun Zhu (云住); “Our Generation” tells the story of Lin Qi Le, also known by her nickname Cherry (portrayed by Zhao Jinmai). A bright and cheerful girl raised in a loving family, Lin Qi Le meets Jiang Qiao Xi (portrayed by Zhang Linghe), a quiet and introverted mathematical genius, at the age of nine. Jiang Qiao Xi’s personality is shaped by his family’s many hidden secrets. The two become friends but are separated, only to reunite at the age of twenty, fall in love, and face life’s challenges together.
In the newly released first stills and videos from the drama team on Weibo, the two leads strike adorable poses with sweet smiles. Zhang Linghe is seen wearing a white hoodie under denim jacket with a boyish hairstyle. Meanwhile Zhao Jinmai hair is tied in a two braids adorned with coloful hair accessories, wearing a white sweater. The photos exude a youthful and sweet vibe. Undoubtedly, Zhang Linghe and Zhao Jinmai share a sweet and natural chemistry.
Initially, 26-year-old actor, Zhang Linghe rose to fame with his supporting role in 2022’s Megahit Love Between Fairy and Devil. He then further solidified his acting career with another hit, Story of Kunning Palace, released in 2023. Zhang’s new costume drama, Love’s Rebellion with Jing Tian, is currently on the air. On the other hand, Zhao Jinmai, 21, has been an actress in the entertainment industry for over a decade. Despite her young age, she boasts a number of hit dramas, including A Little Thing Called First Love, Reset, Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, and The Princess Royal.
Interestingly, since 2022, there have been persistent rumors that Zhao Lusi and Leo Wu, the leads of the 2022 hit drama “Love Like the Galaxy,” would star in the drama “Our Generation.” However, when Zhang Linghe and Zhao Jinmai were officially announced as the cast, some fans were initially surprised. Nevertheless, they have extended their support to the new leads as well.
