It’s like, how many times have we seen a show get canceled or reshot because some actor got into trouble? Well.. A lot. Remember that one show, Love of Hypnosis? This was highly anticipated republican drama in 2019, but then some stuff happened and it got all messed up.
Since 2019, Crystal Liu Yifei and Jing Boran Republican supernatural drama ‘The Love Of Hypnosis (native title: 一曲三笙), (former title: 南烟斋笔录)’, adapted from the same name of the comic has been languished on the shelves. The drama was likely banned from airing due to one of its cast members being permanently cancelled in China before its release. However, thanks to recent advancements in technology like AI face-swapping, the series has been given a second chance to air. Reportedly, in order to make the drama suitable for broadcasting, the drama team has successfuly used the AI face swap in the production and deleted 22 episodes (reducing from 77 to 55 episodes). However, the challenge remains as no broadcasting platform has shown interest in acquiring the license.
Despite the high anticipation in 2019, over six years have passed. In today’s rapidly changing market, with constant updates and high-quality content, “Love of Hypnosis” might not resonate well with viewers as it did previously when it was set to premiere. Additionally, the decision to cut nearly 22 episodes is a significant concern. Even if a broadcasting platform acquires the license, the episodes are still too many (55). Current regulations limit dramas to 40 episodes per season, making the situation challenging. Hope, we’ll still get the chance to watch this series.
