iQIYI’s rom-com suspense detective period drama “Go East (四方馆)” starring Tan Jianci and Zhou Yiran is officially confirmed to premiere on August 23. Directed by Zhao Qi Chen, best known for his work “New Life Begins (卿卿日常)”, the series is adapted from the novel “Xi Yu Lie Wang Fei“(西域列王纪) by Chen Jian (陈渐).

The play tells the story of exceptionally talented and clever young man Yuan Mo (portrayed by Tan Jianci) who works at the Yong Kingdom’s diplomatic agency, “Sifang Pavilion” or “Four Square Pavilion.” However, due to his mistakes, he is assigned to the West Courtyard, the least valued section of the Four Square Pavilion, where he handles small yet challenging foreign affairs. There, he meets three other friends, A Shu (played by Zhou Yiran), Wang Kun Wu (played by Du Chun), and Yu Chi Hua (played by Kan Qing Zi), with whom he cooperates in investigating cases and piecing together the puzzle behind them.

GO EAST C-DRAMA

Unlike the cold yet beautiful Xiang Liu in Lost You Forever, Tan Jianci transforms into the funny and seemingly unreliable diplomatic advisor, Yuan Mo, in Go East. Despite his initial appearance, Yuan Mo is actually intelligent and logical strategist who can speak multiple foreign languages. Although he appears quite funny or carefree on the outside, he will always show up as a skilled detective at a critical moment.

A Shu, a mysterious woman from the Western Region, is playful, cute, and skilled in hidden weapons and poisons. She operates as an unofficial member of the Four Square Pavilion.

Wang Kun Wu, the military commander of the Four Square Pavilion, is a brave soldier from the border. Known for his bravery and combat skills, he is often uses “force” to train Yuan Mo.

Wei Chi Hua, the daughter of a noble family, is known as the Iron Lady of Four Square Pavilion. She is both beautiful and capable, possessing iron-clad skills and great ambition.

After the hit drama “Lost You Forever” Season 2 in 2024, this is the third drama of Tan Jianci to be released this year. He broke out of the circle with his performance in the 2022 dark horse “Under the Skin” Season 1. Following the emotionally rollercoaster “Lost You Forever,” “Go East” is likely to be a light-hearted counterbalance, filled with humor and comedy. Tan Jianci, 33, has two modern romance dramas awaiting to be aired: “Love has Fireworks” with Wang Churan and “Filter” with Li Landi.

Meanwhile, rising star Zhou Yiran, 27, rose to fame with “Song of Life.” She has had two successful dramas in 2024: “Regeneration” and “To the Wonder.
