Tencent Video’s Costume Fantasy Drama “Love Beyond the Grave (慕胥辞)” starring Dilraba Dilmurat and Arthur Chen Feiyu has officially kicked off filming. Based on the web novel “Bai Ri Ti Deng” (白日提灯), the drama is directed by Zoe Qin, best known for “Lost You Forever.”
The lead actress Dilraba started filming ‘Love Beyond the Grave’ after wrapped filming her new modern fantasy drama, Love on the Turquoise Land, alongside Chen Xingxu.
In the play, Dilraba will portray a 400-year-old female ghost, He Simu, while Arthur Chen Feiyu will take on the role of a mysterious general, Duan Xu. In the released concept video, both lead actors appeared in a dark and mysterious style. Chen Feiyu is seen wearing a mask, while Dilireba appears in a black silk blindfold, adding an air of mystery.
Received Mixed Reactions For Costumes & Make Up
Just a few days ago, Chen Feiyu’s first appearance in a red costume was unveiled. However, the choice of attire quickly drew criticism for its perceived lack of originality. Many pointed out that the costume closely resembled one worn by Chen Xiao in the popular TV series ‘A Dream of Splendor.’ Netizens expressed concerns that Chen Feiyu’s style might not align with the character’s intended aura or the overall aesthetic of the drama.
Meanwhile, Dilraba’s high-end makeup and dark-themed look also received mixed reactions.Dilraba is considered a natural beauty capable of carrying various styles. As soon as her new looks video was unveiled, the topic ”迪丽热巴妆造’ quickly shot to the top ten trending topics on Weibo. Undoubtedly, the actress looked stunning in this new, dark look, where she appears in a domineering and imposing aura. However, some netizens felt that her style leaned more towards Western fantasy than Chinese, losing its traditional charm.
Reason Why “Love Beyond the Grave” Casting Faces Backlash
Since, the casting announcement for this particular project ‘Love Beyond The Grave’ various issues have surfaced. From alleged project poor IP reputation and involvement of multiple scriptwriters. Additionally, there were also concerns about the casting of other leading actors like Chen Feiyu, including the supporting male lead.
Previously, Huang Junjie was rumored to cast in the second male lead, whose name was recently removed from the casting list of the currently filming Cheng Yi’s drama ‘Go To The Mountain And Seas’ due to his dating scandal. Given this, with the news of him being cast in ‘Love Beyond The Grave‘, a considerable sensation erupted on Weibo. However, the recent casting news eased fans’ concerns by confirming that Wei Zheming would be the second male lead instead of Huang Junjie.
Regarding the male lead, Chen Feiyu, 24, a similar incident happened in early 2023 when his dating photos were leaked online. Although both Chen Feiyu and Huang Junjie have cleared their scandals, many fans fear that it might negatively affect the dramas reputation in the future if not handled carefully.
